After completely re-arranging room assignments, we finally have a wonderful PDF version of our program. Many thanks to Kevin Dixey for the design.
Our program for Monday, April 23 concludes at about 8:30 pm at the Spark Museum in downtown Bellingham. At that time, we will be offering minivan transportation back to the hotel. For the more adventuresome, there are some additional activities in downtown Bellingham that we can recommend.
Among the activities is the viewing of the 2011 academy-award winner for best documentary directed by a graduate of Western Washington University’s Fairhaven College. Undefeated is an inspirational sports flick concerning the turn-around of an inner city high-school football team. The film will be playing at the Pickford Cinema, right next door to the Spark Museum starting at 9:15 pm. This is sure to be a popular film for Bellinghamsters, so get in line early.
The place for live music in Bellingham is the Wild Buffalo. On Monday night, they will be hosting Skatalites, with world/reggae music. Their doors open at 8:00 pm with music beginning at 9:30 pm. The Wild Buffalo is one block from the Spark Museum.
There are other nightlife options including Poppe’s Bistro and Lounge which is a martini bar inside our conference hotel. Just ask if you want any additional recommendations.
We are pleased to announce that we plan to make several of our sessions at NWMET 2012 available as live webcasts. The online program lists sessions that will be webcast. Interaction with presenters, facilitators and other members will be conducted through Twitter. All 2012 sessions will be recorded via “lecture capture” and will be made available to members soon after the sessions are complete. Please renew your membership if you wish to have access to the live and recorded sessions from this year’s conference.
At a recent technology and digital media event at Western Washington University, the following student-produced video on Western won first place in a video production contest.
On Monday evening we will have entrance to the Spark Museum of Electrical Invention. Below is a new video produced by the museum showing some of the exhibits. If you are lucky your visit will include a seat in their Faraday Cage. Steampunk attire is optional.
Our hotel, the Lakeway Inn, has now extended the deadline for our discounted rate to April 6, 2012. In addition, we now have the promotional code NWMET for reserving online. Or, you may call (360) 671.1011 to reserve your room. I’m sure that you’ll find the accommodations comfortable. The hotel has many nice features including two restaurants with one (Poppe’s) hosting live music on most nights.
